Jonah strode towards the shiny apartment building, squinting bleary-eyed at it. The sun was bright in the wintery blue sky, making the slush and snow around him sparkle. Big freaking difference from last night, which was down in Jonah’s memories as That Toga Party now. The one where Vaughn Daisy Scarf Hargrave had finally shown some interest, and Jonah had fucked it up by throwing a goddamn fit because the dude didn’t want to screw right away.

There was nothing wrong with that. He listened when people told him no. But Vaughn’s no had been different somehow. After that scintillating kiss, Jonah had thought he’d finally had the guy locked down, that he’d get the tension, the itch, fucked out of him by a guy who knew his name and where he came from, that he’d won Vaughn over.

But. No.

And he’d turned around to the nearest hot piece of ass, desperate for the mindlessness of sex and, in some little twisted part of him, to prove to Vaughn how replaceable he was. That Jonah might not push a rejection, but he’d sure as fuck show him what he was missing.

Good job, Jonah. He’d fucked someone, someone had rimmed him, blowjobs had happened, all of it releasing him from the sad sack currently masquerading as his head. He’d floated with endorphins, his anger drained as though sex had turned valves on an emotional grate.

And he’d found Vaughn waiting like none of it had mattered.

What the hell was wrong with him? With both of them? Last night didn’t fit into anything Jonah knew about guys. He’d never reacted like that to a rejection before. And he’d never had a guy waiting for him before, especially when sex was off the table and the guy wore an expression like he’d been kicked.

It sat weirdly in his stomach along with the über-rich atmosphere of this neighbourhood. God, he hated this part of town. Vaughn was lucky he was worth visiting.

And so pretty. That stupid realistic toga of his hadn’t covered all the goods. Those toned legs with the right amount of hair, lickable shoulders and arms, and his chest. Holy gods of gay men, Vaughn had been blessed with perfect chest hair. Jonah should probably thank Carson for the party theme, but after the shit he’d pulled dancing with Vaughn, tonguing him like that—because Jonah had been watching—it wasn’t going to happen.

Today wasn’t going down like last time. No way was he just going to sit on that sofa and play video games for a few hours again. Jonah wasn’t exactly sure what to expect though. This was totally out-of-bounds for him. He knew what he wanted to do—redoing that kiss was a vital first step—but Vaughn’s response was an unknown entity. All he could imagine was Vaughn finally fucking him or the guy listing all the reasons why he wouldn’t sleep with him, then telling him to leave.

Was this what strings felt like? All these stupid questions running like squirrels in his head? Yet he still moved towards Vaughn’s shiny building as though pulled there.
